FX has snatched another boxoffice champ, securing the exclusive TV rights to “Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian,” which opened at No. 1 with $70 million during the weekend.

The basic cable network is expected to 不倫pay a standard license fee: 12% of the movie’s domestic boxoffice, with a cap at $200 million. With “Smithsonian” on course to cross that mark, FX likely will end up shelling out $24 million for the Ben Stiller starrer, produced by sibling studio Fox. The network will have it available at the end of 2011 and has an option to carve out broadcast windows.

FX already owns the TV rights to “Smithsonian’s” hit predecessor, 2006′s “Night at the Museum,” which premiered on the network last week to respectable numbers.

In the past few weeks, FX also has acquired three other films that opened at No. 1 during the spring: “Star Trek,” “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” and “Monsters vs. Aliens.”

The cable network is bound to claim another boxoffice champ this summer with the upcoming “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,” which it bought several months ago as part of a Paramount package that included last year’s Stiller comedy “Tropic Thunder.”

Stiller movies, including “There’s Something About Mary” and “Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story,” have been strong 不倫performers for FX, which might pair its two “Museum” acquisitions with any of Stiller’s older movies or run them as a double feature starting in November 2011.

In the advert, designed to promote improvements to the West Coast line, Sir Richard wears a bright orange fluorescent jacket, heavy boots and is seen driving a refuse cart through the station.
RMT General Secretary Bob Crow commented: “Richard Branson treating the hard-working rail employees, who have earned him a不倫 fortune in recent years, as some sort of excuse for getting out the fancy dress box is patronising in the extreme.
“The blacked-out teeth and fake tattoos say a lot about the attitude of Virgin Trains to our members who work under enormous pressure to make the services tick.”
Sir Richard said the advert showed his appreciation of his workforce.
“I am so proud of all of our Virgin 不倫Train people and if dressing up in disgustingly dirty clothes, having my teeth blacked out and getting covered in tattoos was what it took to provide it, I was delighted to oblige,” he said.
